Roofing System

CertainTeed manufactures high-quality asphalt roofing shingles in a wide variety of styles and colors for residential applications. Asphalt roofing shingles are the most commonly used residential roofing products in the market. There are three major categories of roofing shingles including Traditional roofing shingles, Designer roofing shingles and Luxury roofing shingles.

Underlayments are designed for use on residential roof decks as a water-resistant layer beneath roofing shingles. CertainTeed manufactures the utility grade felt underlayments ShingleFelt 30 and the fiber glass-reinforced felt underlayment Roofers Select. We also market a high performance synthetic underlayment called DiamondDeck. Waterproofing shingle underlayments prevent leaks from ice dams and wind-driven rain in vulnerable areas. CertainTeed manufactures the product WinterGuard. Accessory Products

Accessory shingles are used to finish the hips and ridges of a residential roof and carry the same warranty as the shingles they are applied over. There are a number of options designed to complement the appearance of shingles while providing the same level of protection and durability. CertainTeed manufactures hip and ridge accessories under the product names ShadowRidge and Mountain Ridge.

Proper attic ventilation systems allow a continuous flow of outside air through the attic which creates cooler attics in the summer and drier attics in the winter. It consists of a balanced system between air intake (at your eaves or soffits) and air exhaust (at or near your roof ridge). CertainTeed offers Ridge Vent, Rolled Ridge Vent, Static Vents, and Intake Vent products to meet a variety of ventialtion needs.

Types of Asphalt Roofing

There are three major categories of asphalt roofing shingle products available today - strip shingles, dimensional shingles, and luxury shingles. It is important to understand the differences between each type of roofing shingle in order to pick the right product for your home. Asphalt roof shingles are the most popular roofing material used on homes across North America, and with good reason. They are designed to protect a home through decades of weathering with minimal upkeep, and are available in hundreds of colors and styles.

Strip Shingles

Also known as 3-tab shingles (due to the cut of the shingle) or simply strips, strip shingles are the original and most basic asphalt shingles. They are made from a single layer of asphalt and have a very flat appearance that typically offers a slate look. Since they are made from a single layer, they generally weigh and cost less than other asphalt shingles. Prior to designer shingles being introduced in the 1980s, strip shingles were the predominant roofing shingle in the market. Today, strip shingles are used most often used by home builders that manufacture inexpensive homes, or by homeowners who are replacing roofing shingles on residences that already have strip shingles on the roof. CertainTeed strip shingles include products such as CT 20 and XT 30.

Energy Star Roofing

Energy Star is a label given to material that has qualified for an Energy Star rating. In roofing, this rating is given to products that save a measurable amount of energy, which in turn saves consumers money on their energy bills. This is important to both consumers and businesses because the more energy efficient we make our homes and businesses, the less money we have to spend on heating and cooling.
